Guwahati: Wanted drug peddler Amir Hussain sustained a bullet injury in an encounter with the Assam police. The police in the wee hours on Sunday seized 1.6 kilograms of heroin worth rupees 10 crores in an operation and arrested two drug mafia leaders Amir Hussain and Salau Rahman in the Khatkhati area of Karbi Anglong district near the Assam-Nagaland border.

The drugs were bought from Manipur in a truck hidden in the fuel tank. The truck was stopped by the Naka check team of the Khatkhati outpost. The police team found 115 plastic packets full of heroin inside the fuel tank of the truck. The police team immediately arrested the driver Amir Hussain and Salau Rahman. They revealed that the consignment was brought to the Bokajan area of Assam and was loaded in the border area.

The police took the arrested drug mafias for spot verification. Police sources said that while they were taken to the spot, Amir Hussain reported that he was feeling unwell and nauseated. When the police team stopped the vehicle and allowed Amir Hussain to vomit, he tried to escape from the spot. The police team was forced to open fire on Amir. He has been admitted to Diphu Medical College Hospital.

Notably, the Assam police have arrested around 3500 drugs mafias and peddlers in the last 8 months and available data suggested that almost 70 to 80 per cent of these arrested peddlers are from a particular community.
