New Delhi: Damdami Taksal, a prominent Sikh body, which Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale once headed, has hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his announcement of December 26 as the Veer Bal Divas. It also lauded him for being the "first Prime Minister" ever in the history of India to have fulfilled his duty towards the Sikh community.

Hailing Prime Minister Modi's decision to observe December 26 as 'Veer Baal Diwas', Tarlochan Singh, who had served as press secretary to former President of India Giani Zail Singh, said this as a very good step to recognise the contribution of Sikhs. "This will give a message to the youth of the country. We thank the PM for taking this decision," he said.

"It is Modi's gesture to make the world know about the momentous courage shown by Sahibzadas'to the world which none of the government in India's past 325 years of history has done so," said the head of Damdami Taksal Baba Harnam Singh Khalsa.

The Prime Minister has announced that December 26 will be observed as 'Veer Baal Diwas', and the day will be dedicated to paying homage to four Sahibzaades of Guru Gobind Singh.
