Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Punjab yesterday (January 5) for multiple meetings and engagements. His convoy was held by ‘protesters’ at a flyover for over 20 minutes.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s convoy was stuck at a flyover for over 20 minutes near Piareana village in Punjab on Wednesday (January 5). Some protesting ‘farmers’ had blocked the road and were dangerously close to Prime Minister Modi’s vehicle.

Leftist website The Quint published a story on Wednesday (January 5) that PM Modi’s vehicle was stuck in a traffic in Noida in 2017 and no hue and cry was made about prime minister’s security.

It wrote that unnecessary cry was made about a traffic jam.

The netizens fact-checked The Quint. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vehicle was stuck in a traffic jam in Noida in 2017 for two minutes, not two hours.

PM Modi was headed for the inauguration of a metro line and the pilot vehicle took a wrong turn. The moment UP Police noticed it, it was rectified within seconds. Two cops were suspended.

The Quint republished the story later and removed the part where it had mentioned for how long the prime minister’s vehicle was stuck.

When the prime minister was safely rescued to the Bhatinda airport, he told the airport security officials “Apne CM Ko Thanks Bolna, Main Zinda Laut Paaya” (Say thanks to your chief minister, I returned alive.).

During the Prime Minister’s visit to any state, the Chief Minister, state DGP and chief secretary receive the prime minister and accompany him. But, in Punjab’s case, all there were absent from the prime minister’s convoy.

Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Channi was caught making multiple excuses and speaking lies.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), in a press statement, said, “The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) taking cognisance of this serious security lapse has sought a detailed report from the state government. The State Government has also been asked to fix responsibility for this lapse and take strict action.”

It added “The Prime Minister’s schedule and travel plan was communicated well in advance to the Punjab Government. As per procedure, they have to make necessary arrangements for logistics, security as well as keep a contingency plan ready. Also, in view of the contingency plan the Punjab Government has to deploy additional security to secure any movement by road, which were clearly not deployed.”
