One of the MLA's bodyguards took him safely to the Sonhua police station while the other two bodyguards were brutally killed by the Maoists.

Former BJP MLA from Manoharpur constituency Gurcharan Nayak was attacked by unidentified Maoists on Tuesday (January 4) evening in Chaibasa of West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. Sources confirmed that about 100 armed Maoists carried out the attack in Jhilruwan village of Chaibasa, where Nayak had gone to watch a football match.

Sensing the attack of Maoists, one of his bodyguards took him safely to the Sonhua police station, while the Maoists brutally killed two bodyguards of the MLA. According to eyewitnesses, the MLA's bodyguards were beaten black and blue by the Maoists and were murdered by slitting their throats with sharp weapons.

The incident occurred under the Goilkera police station area of the Manoharpur assembly constituency, where the Maoists carried out the deadly and is about two kilometres away from the former MLA residence in Tuniyan. It has also been confirmed that the Maoists looted the bodyguards' weapons from the spot.

Before the police could reach the spot after the news broke out, Maoists left along with the looted weapons and a search operation was intensified in the entire area. A bodyguard's body has been recovered from the spot while the search for the other is on.

The former BJP MLA Gurcharan Nayak had already been a target of Ultras and was attacked twice during his tenure as MLA. Tension prevails in the area after the deadly attack of Maoists.

The brutal murder of two bodyguards by the Left Wing Extremists in broad daylight is linked to the Maoists' attempt to inscribe their active presence in the area after the arrest of Prashant Bose, who is considered to be the kingpin of Maoists in Jharkhand.
