Defending tyrant Aurangzeb, he said attempt was made to defame the Mughal ruler. He also said there is a civil war-like situation in the country.
Naseeruddin Shah did yesterday (December 29) what he does best: defending Mughal tyrants and declaring present-day India intolerant.
In an interview to a propaganda website, Naseeruddin Shah said that Mughals were refugees in India and there is a civil-war like situation in the country today.
“The so-called atrocities of the Mughals are being highlighted all the time. We forget that the Mughals are people who have contributed to the country. They are people who have left lasting monuments in the country, who have left the tradition of dancing, music, painting, literature. Mughals came here to make this their homeland. You can call them refugees if you like”, Shah said.
Many protested against the propaganda of Shah. Former CBI director M Nageswara Rao said that the Mughals were invaders who did great damage to the Indic civilization. He posted on Twitter “Mughals were the barbaric invaders who destroyed much of Hindu civilisation, religion, demography, culture etc. They are a root cause for creation of Pak, BD & of most other problems India has been facing. And you call them settlers or refugees? Shame on you #naseeruddinshah”.
Political commentator Smita Deshmukh called it Naseeruddin Shah’s strange and relentless obsession with the Mughals.
He also alleged that mosques and churches were deliberately demolished in the country, with the active support of the ruling dispensation, to create fear in the minds of minorities.
Shah is not new to controversy. In fact, in the last few years he is focused on giving baseless media bytes.
After the demise of the veteran actor Rajesh Khanna, Shah had said, “For all his success, I think Khanna was a very limited actor. In fact, he was a poor actor. Intellectually, he wasn't the most alert person I have ever met.” He even blamed Rajesh Khanna for the poor quality of script, acting, music and lyrics in Bollywood.
He had once called veteran actor Anupam Kher a “clown”.
After the Taliban took control of Kabul in August this year, Naseeruddin Shah had criticized Indian Muslims for supporting the Taliban. The Islamists criticized him severely for criticizing the Taliban.
It looks Naseeruddin Shah had quickly made amendments.
