The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) Block President Mukesh Soni was shot dead on December 15 in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Yunus Ansari and Prince Khan are the prime accused.

The Jharkhand Police on Sunday (December 19) arrested Yunus Ansari in the murder case of VHP leader Mukesh Soni.

Soni, Khalari Block president, was shot dead on December 15 when he was returning after closing his jewellery shop. The Jharkhand BJP and VHP leaders protested and demanded immediate action in the case.

Soni’s father had named Yunus Ansari and Prince Khan in the FIR. An SIT was formed to crack the case.

In the press conference on Sunday (December 19), Ranchi Rural Superintendent of Police Naushad Alam Ansari said that cracking the case, police have arrested Yunus Ansari and search is on for Prince Khan.

He also said that the phone used by Yunus, which is a very crucial evidence in the case, has been recovered.

SP Ansari said that an illegally constructed house of Yunus was demolished on the complaint of Soni. This infuriated Yunus and he planned the murder.

The police officer added that Yunus was wanted in an illegal arms deal case. Yunus suspected that police were tipped about the illegal arms deal case by Soni.

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha’s Hemant Soren, who is running a coalition government with Congress and Lalu Prasad Yadav’s RJD, is the chief minister since December 2019.

In September this year, disrespecting all secular ethos, the Hemant Soren government allocated a namaz hall in the Jharkhand Assembly. The Jharkhand Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi had opposed the move.

He had told the Organiser, “The allocation is absolutely wrong. We will demand that this order is taken back and cancelled immediately. The assembly is a temple of democracy. If order is implemented, it’ll no longer remain a temple of democracy. This order is against the spirit of democracy and BJP opposes it.”

Mukesh Soni’s brother Sagar Soni also accused the Khalari SHO Farid Alam of helping the accused’s family.
