Stolen limited edition watch of football legend Maradona recovered in Assam. Thief Wazid Hussein arrested

The accused allegedly stole the limited edition Hublot watch signed by Maradona with his jersey number written on it when he worked as a security guard for a company storing the late football legend's belongings in Dubai.

 

Guwahati: The Assam Police, in coordination with the Dubai Police, have recovered a stolen luxury watch that belonged to the late football legend Diego Maradona and arrested the thief Wazid Hussein. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed via Twitter on Saturday (December 11). Sivasagar police arrested the accused, identified as Wazid Hussein, in Moran on Friday night. Further legal action will be taken, CM said.

Dr. Sarma informed that Assam Police coordinated with the Dubai Police through Indian federal law enforcement agencies to recover the heritage Hublot watch that belonged to Argentinian football player Diego Maradona.

The CM tweets, "In an act of international cooperation, Assam Police has coordinated with Dubai Police through Indian federal LEA to recover a heritage Hublot watch belonging to legendary footballer Diego Maradona and arrested one Wazid Hussein. Follow up lawful action is being taken."

On receiving input from Dubai Police through a central agency, the Assam Police arrested the accused at 4 am on Saturday from his in-law's residence in Moran in Sivasagar, the special Director General of Police GP Singh informed.

The accused allegedly stole the limited edition Hublot watch signed by Maradona with his jersey number written on it when he worked as a security guard for a company storing the late football player's belongings in Dubai. He then purportedly fled to Assam in August this year.

Sivasagar district Superintendent of Police Rakesh Raushan said, "Based on secret information, we had launched an operation last night and apprehended the person from the house of his in-laws. We have also recovered a heritage Hublot watch worth Rupees 12 lakhs from his possession. Our investigation is on." The limited-edition watch with Maradona's signature and jersey number is believed to be worth Rupees several crores in the auction market.
