Guwahati: The brave martyrs for the nation are our pride, their families are our responsibility. Yes, this is what the Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Wednesday (November 17). CM Dr. Sarma said he would look after the three-year-old Barad Swargiary, son of martyr Suman Swargiary, in his personal capacity.

The Assam CM visited the grief-stricken family of martyr Suman Swargiary, who was killed in a terrorist attack in Churachandpur district of Manipur on Saturday (November 13), in Barama in Baksa district. CM Dr. Sarma handed over a cheque of 50 lakhs to Jury Swargiary, wife of martyr Swargiary, as a one-time ex gratia from the state government. The CM said, "visited martyr Suman Swargiary's home and spent some time with the brave family and paid my respect to their supreme sacrifice. Brave Suman Swargiary made the supreme sacrifice for the security of our nation. It is our duty to stand by his family. I will take the responsibility in my personal capacity to look after the young Barad Swargiary, the son of martyr Suman Swargiary."

CM also told the media that the road to martyr Swargiary's home would be newly constructed and named after the brave martyr.

Further, CM Sarma also added that a stadium would also be constructed at Hirimba Bodo High School, where the martyr Assam Rifles jawan studied.

Swargiary was one of seven individuals killed in the ambush in Manipur's Churachandpur district on Saturday, including the wife and 8-year-old son of an Assam Rifles commanding officer.

Terrorists attacked the convoy of Assam Rifles when a Colonel of the 46 Battalion of the Assam Rifles was going to supervise a civic action program in the Churachandpur, bordering Myanmar.

The Commanding Officer (CO) of 46 Assam Rifles, Colonel Viplav Tripathy, his wife, and his 8-year-old son and four soldiers were killed in the ambush by terrorists near the India-Myanmar border in Manipur on Saturday. Four more soldiers sustained injuries in the ambush.
