New Delhi: At the invitation of the Italian Presidency of the G-20, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the upcoming G20 Extraordinary Leaders’ Summit on Afghanistan on October 12, Tuesday in virtual format.
The Summit is being convened by the G-20 Italian Presidency.
The agenda of the meeting will include a discussion on response to humanitarian needs and access to basic services and livelihood; security and the fight against terrorism; and mobility, migration and human rights, an MEA release said here.
PM Modi had earlier participated in the SCO –CSTO outreach Summit on Afghanistan.
External Affairs Minister, Dr. S Jaishankar also had participated in the meeting of G-20 Foreign Ministers on Afghanistan on the margins of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The G-20 comprises twenty of the world’s major economies and is an important platform to help build international consensus and facilitate a coordinated approach between multilateral organizations, including the UN and its agencies.
The deliberation would help global and regional actors to address the "worsening humanitarian crisis" in Afghanistan.
Things are in stalemate in Afghanistan since August 15 when Taliban entered Kabul and later took over reins of war-devastated Afghanistan.
The Taliban regime is trying hard for international recognition but for it's part, it has not done to invite such recognition.
The condition of women remains a matter of deep concern in Afghanistan despite pressures from international community.
The UNSC resolution under India's presidency in August had called for ensuring of an inclusive regime in Afghanistan.
