‘Shun violence and join civil society’ appeals DGP Abhay

Gangi joined the Maoist organisation in 2005 and was involved in seven violent incidents while Gita Padiami alias Rajita joined the banned outfit in 2018.

 

Bhubaneswar. Two active Maoist cadres of the banned CPI (Maoist) surrendered before DGP Abhay at Koraput on Sunday (October 3).

Among the surrendered Maoists, one held the rank of an Area Commander and a reward of Rs 4 lakh on his head. The other LWE cadre was a member of CPI (Maoist). They have been identified as Deba Padiami alias Gangi and Gita Padiami alias Rajita, both belonging to the Guma area committee.

According to Koraput Police, Gangi joined the Maoist organisation in 2005. She was involved in seven violent incidents. She worked with Machhkund and Guma area committee.

Likewise, Gita Padiami, alias Rajita, was originally from Chhattishgarh, and she joined the banned outfit in 2018. She was involved in 4 violent incidents.

DGP Abhay welcomed the surrendered Maoists into the mainstream. He also appealed to other Maoists to shun violence and join civil society.

“Koraput police have done a commendable job in facilitating Maoist surrenders in the past. The Odisha Government has a very attractive rehabilitation policy and I urge all the Maoists to take advantage of the policy and join the mainstream,” the DGP added.
