IMPHAL: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has started its preparation for the 2022 assembly election in Manipur. The core committee let by newly appointed election incharge and union minister for labour and environment Bhupendra Yadav, chief minister N Biren Singh, Manipur incharge Dr.Sambit Patra and other members met in Imphal on Sunday and discussed various issues related to the election. Taking to twitter CM N Biren Singh said, "Attended the BJP Core Committee meeting chaired by Hon’ble Union Minister and Manipur Election In-charge Sh @byadavbjp Ji and attended by the esteemed members of the committee. Discussed important matters about the preparation for the upcoming assembly election in Manipur."
BJP sources said the party will set its aim to secure at least 40 seats in the 60-member legislative assembly.
The crucial meeting was also attended by co-in charges MoS Social Justice Pratima Bhowmik and Assam Cabinet Minister Ashok Singhal, North East zonal secretary of BJP Ajay Jamwal and Abhay Giri.
BJP State President Sharda Adhikarimayum, MoS External Affairs Raj Kumar Ranjan Singh and other senior leaders have also taken part in the core members meeting.
The core committee meeting decides on holding meetings at multiple levels ahead of assembly polls and subcommittees to be formed for the same to aware the people about numerous central and state government schemes undertaken by the BJP government in the state.
The first BJP government came into power in 2017. BJP has 24 MLAs in the 60 members assembly. NDA has 36 MLAs in the state with NPP and NPF as its partners in NDA.
Earlier in the morning all leaders of the election core committee visited the 'Govinda Ji' temple and offered prayers. The BJP leaders also visited 'Bal Griha' in Imphal and distributed sweets and food amongst the children.
