Security forces have got a big success in Sukma, Chhattisgarh. After being influenced by the Poorna Nakorm campaign being run by the security forces in Sukma district, the infamous Maoist Sodhi Moya has surrendered before the Sukma police.
The Chhattisgarh government had also placed a bounty of 8 lakhs on Sodhi's head. Sodhi was involved in many Maoist activities, in the Bastar division of Chhattisgarh. Maoist Sodhi was involved in Naxal activities since 2006, has several cases filed against him in different police stations of the Bastar division. He is also accused of killing around 29 security personnel in separate incidents.
Moya, a Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC) member, has 20 named offences registered against him in different police stations under the Sukma district. Moya worked with notorious Maoists like Sujata and Ramanna and is considered the main conspirator of the Bhejji and Kaiisalpad attacks.
In 2014, in the Kaiisalpad village of Sukma district, Maoists suddenly opened indiscriminate fire on the security personnel, who were out on a search operation, after which 14 soldiers were martyred on the spot. Apart from this, 12 soldiers were also martyred in the IED blast incident in Bhajji of Sukma district. Sodhi Moya is believed to be the main conspirator of both these attacks. Along with this, Moya was involved in many other terrorist attacks.
Moya surrendered in the presence of Central Reserve Police Force DIG Yogyan Singh and Sukma district SP Sunil Sharma. SP Sunil Sharma, who was present on the occasion, said that we have launched Poorna Narkom (New Morning) campaign for the Maoists to leave the path of violence and return home. Now gradually its positive effect is also visible. Assistance will be given to every Maoist who surrenders under the rehabilitation policies of the government. He further said that they are committed to the eradication of Maoist violence in this entire region.
While surrendering, Moya said that discrimination is done based on regionalism within the Maoist organization, due to which he has surrendered. Now he, along with the police, wants to play a constructive role in eradicating Maoists. In recent months, the dispute of regionalism between the Maoists in Chhattisgarh and bordering Jharkhand has been deepening. Recently, two notorious Maoists, Vimal and Maharaj Pramanik, have surrendered in Jharkhand. Both of them had also accused the Maoist leadership of discrimination on a regional basis at the time of surrender.
