The BJP is set to go with all seriousness for the poll at Bhabanipur and has appointed sitting Lok Sabha MP, Arjun Singh, as the poll observer.

New Delhi: Ending all speculations, the BJP on Friday (September 10) fielded lawyer and party's youth wing vice president Priyanka Tibriwal from the prestigious Bhabanipur assembly segment where Mamata Banerjee will be putting up her do or die contest assembly polls.

"I am thankful to the party leadership… I never thought I will get the ticket. My party has seen my connect with the people of West Bengal," said Ms Tibriwal.

Referring to post-poll violence and the manner she took up the legal battle, Ms Tibriwal said, "while Mamata Banerjee has forced people out of their house, I have worked hard to give them their house".

For Trinamool Congress supremo, the Bhabanipur battle is crucial to continue as Chief Minister as earlier this year, she had lost to BJP's firebrand leader Suvendu Adhikari.

The BJP is set to go with all seriousness for the poll at Bhabanipur and has appointed sitting Lok Sabha MP, Arjun Singh, as the poll observer.

Two other West Bengal BJP MPs, Saumitra Khan and Jyotirmay Singh Mahato, will assist him as co in-charges, and 8 BJP MLAs have been given charge of eight wards to go full steam in the constituency.

The BJP also named Sujit Das as the party candidate from Jangipur and Milan Ghosh from Samserganj for the by-polls.

The by-polls to these constituencies will be held on September 30.

Congress has decided not to field any candidate, but the CPI-M has named Srijib Biswas as their nominee.

BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya said in a tweet that Bhabanipur must defeat Mamata Banerjee "to stop Talibanisation of West Bengal".
