Another case of Love Jihad has come to light in Madhya Pradesh.
Irfan Khan pretended to be Rohan and married a Hindu girl. The marriage was solemnised three years back when the victim was 21 years old and was in college at the time.
In February this year, she was forcibly converted and given a new identity of Alia Bi. When she protested, she was beaten so badly that her backbone was broken. The victim ran away from Irfan’s home on August 19 and went to the police station to register the case. She also said Irfan and his family forcibly took her two lakh rupees.
On March 8 this year, the Madhya Pradesh Assembly passed the ‘Love Jihad’ bill that penalises religious conversion through marriage or other fraudulent means and provides a prison sentence of up to 10 years.
When the bill was debated in the Madhya Pradesh assembly, the state Home Minister Narottam Mishra said the Madhya Pradesh government would not tolerate any "Rafiq becoming Ravi" for ‘Love Jihad’.
