Muslim MBBS student, Police constable, Maulanas arrested for posting provocative messages supporting Taliban in Assam

DGP GP Singh says that a case has been registered against 14 muslims under the Unlawful Activity Prevention Act (UAPA). 

Guwahati: 14 Muslims, including an MBBS student, two Maulanas and one police constable, are arrested by Assam police today for supporting and posting provocative messages in support of the Taliban on social media. Police arrested a 3rd-year MBBS student Nadim Akhtar from the Hailakandi district of Barak Valley, who is currently studying in Tezpur Medical College for posting support to the Taliban in his social media profiles.
The special branch (SB) of Assam police have identified 17 people who have posted supporting and provoking posts in their social media profiles. Out of these 17 people, 14 have been arrested from different Assam parts, including two Maulans and 21 Assam police battalion constable.
Arrested Maulanas are 49 years Fazul Karim of Darrang district and 65 years Basiruddin Laskar from Hojai district. Three persons who belong to Assam and reside in places like Dubai, Saudi Arabia and Mumbai also posted provocative and supporting posts of Taliban in their social media profiles. Assam police are collecting more details about these three and will take up the matter with the IB for their arrest. After analyzing the arrested person's posts, special DGP GP Singh says that a case has been registered under the Unlawful Activity Prevention Act (UAPA). The police are investigating it further.
