A major attack was averted by the Punjab police on Independence Day by arresting two terrorists linked with a UK-based terrorist entity from Amritsar last night.

The police also recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the terrorists.

"In total, two hand-grenades, two pistols (9 mm), four magazines and 20 bullets have been seized. An FIR under sections 25/27 of Arms Act 1959 and sections 3,4,5 of Explosive Substance (Amendment) Act 2001, has been registered at Gharinda Police Station in Amritsar," the Police said.

Earlier, there was intelligence output of ISI attempting to carry out terrorist attacks before Indian Independence day.
