Dr Kalam was honoured with 'Bharat Ratna' for his contribution to the scientific research and modernisation of defence technology in India.

 

Popularly known as the 'Missile Man of India', Dr A P J Abdul Kalam was born in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, on October 15, 1931. He served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007.

 

Dr Kalam was honoured with 'Bharat Ratna' for his contribution to the scientific research and modernisation of defence technology in India.

 

Dr Kalam suffered a stroke while delivering a lecture to the students of IIM Shillong and passed away on July 27, 2015.

 

'Wings of Fire', 'India 2020 – A Vision for the New Millennium', 'My journey' and 'Ignited Minds – Unleashing the power within India' are some of his popular works.
