Laxmi Puri, a Former Assistant Secretary-General at the United Nations filed a petition at the Delhi High Court against Saket Gokhale for making allegations against herself and her husband Union Minister Hardeep Singh.

RTI activist Saket Gokhale, close to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and associated with the IT cell of Congress, seems to be in fresh trouble. Delhi High Court directs activist Saket Gokhale to remove tweets defaming Lakshmi Puri.

Former Assistant Secretary-General at the United Nations Laxmi Puri filed a petition against activist Saket Gokhale's alleged defamatory tweets against her and her husband, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. On July 8, after hearing both sides, the Delhi High Court reserved its decision on the petition.

Saket Gokhale, in his tweets, made a serious allegation of corruption on the wife of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and former IFS officer Lakshmi M Puri, to which Lakshmi not only responded but also filled a petition against Saket's allegations. Spreading propaganda without facts only based on agenda has become a noose around Saket Gokhale's neck.

During the hearing on July 8, Justice C Hari Shankar asked Gokhale how he could defame people, especially since the tweets made by him were prima facie wrong.

The court asked Saket, "How can you defame people like this? Show me that before making this information public, did you contact the plaintiff?"

The court on July 8 reserved its order in the defamation suit filed by Puri, which sought damages of Rs 5 crore apart from the order to delete the tweets.
