Guwahati: PPFA expressed its support for the Uniform Civil Code after Delhi High Court told the Center Government to implement the Uniform Civil Code.

Expressing gratifications over a recent observation of Delhi High Court in favor of a Uniform Civil Code (UCC), a northeast India-based nationalist citizen’s forum urged the Centre to implement the UCC across the country in total. Patriotic People’s Front Assam (PPFA) specially requested the newly appointed Union law minister Kiren Rijiju to toil over the matter.

Mentionable is that the high court favoring a UCC in the country asked the Union government in New Delhi to take necessary steps for its total implementation. It observed that in the modern society of India, which is gradually becoming homogenous, the traditional barriers of religion, community, and caste are slowly dissipating.

The court also viewed that the Indian youth belonging to various communities, tribes, castes, or religions, who solemnize their marriages, ought not to be forced to struggle with issues arising due to conflicts in various personal laws, especially about their marriages and divorces.

“We wholeheartedly support the high court’s reflection that there should be a Code which is common to all in our country,” stated a PPFA statement adding that once implemented fully, the UCC will essentially provide one law for the entire country, applicable to all religious communities in their matters such as marriage, divorce, inheritance, adoption, etc.
