The results of the assembly election were declared on May 2 and Mamata Banerjee was sworn in as the chief minister for the third time on May 5.

Suvendu Adhikari, a close confidant of Mamata Banerjee, resigned from the TMC in December last year and joined the BJP.

In the just-concluded assembly polls, he defeated Mamata Banerjee from Nandigram.

Since December last year, he has been accorded Z-category security cover by the Union government. State security is needed for pilot cars, route lining, and public meetings.

The state security provided to Suvendu Adhikari by the West Bengal Government was withdrawn on May 18. Adhikari moved the Calcutta High Court with the plea to get this security back.

The Calcutta High Court directed the West Bengal government to reinstate the withdrawn security.
