Tech and social media giants Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and others had de-platformed former US President Donald Trump. These tech giants are being accused of censorship and bias in many countries across the globe.
Amid a growing call to check the monopoly of the tech and social media giants, former US President Donald Trump’s aides launched a social media platform, ‘Gettr’ on Thursday.
The app is available on Google’s Android and Apple’s app store. It will be launched officially on July 4.
Most of the app features are similar to Twitter, except one significant difference being, the post characters on Gettr could be 777 characters long.
Donald Trump’s former spokesperson, Jason Miller, is leading the platform, while his former campaign spokesperson Tim Murtaugh is working as a consultant. Gettr’s headquarter is in New York.
All the big tech and social media giants had de-platformed Trump in January of this year after the Capitol Hill riots.
President Trump has still not joined the platform.
Even in India, Twitter and Facebook are receiving criticism for randomly censoring the posts and not abiding by the local laws.
Twitter in India has still not made arrangements to follow the new IT rules, which have come into force on May 25.
