Rattled West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Moves Calcutta High Court to Challenge the Electoral Victory of Suvendu Adhikari in Nandigram

BJP candidate Suvendu Adhikari defeated Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram by a margin of 1956 votes.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court challenging the electoral victory of Suvendu Adhikari from the Nandigram constituency.

The petition will be heard on June 18 at 11 a.m. by Justice Kausik Chanda.

Suvendu Adhikari, The Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, had defeated Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the just-concluded assembly polls by a margin of 1956 votes.

The results were declared on May 2.

Banerjee, who has been chief minister of West Bengal since 2011, shifted from Bhabanipur to Nandigram.

Adhikari, a former close confidant of Banerjee, had resigned from the TMC in December last year and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Banerjee had sworn in as chief minister on May 5. As per the rule, she has to be a member of the assembly within six months to continue holding the post of the chief minister.
