25 years ago on June 10, 1986, the Great Kapil Dev led India managed to register their first-ever Test win at the Lord's Cricket Ground. The Kapil Dev-led visitors won by five wickets on the final day of the first Test against England.
India had played its first Test match at Lord’s back in 1932 but it took them a long time to taste the success of victory.
India won the toss and opted to field first.
The hosts were wrapped out for 294 as Chetan Sharma shines with five wicket haul. Graham Gooch leading the English scorecard with 114 runs.
India then managed to take a 47-run lead in the first innings after scoring of 341, top scoring Dilip Vengsarkar's, the all time king of Lord’s with a hard-hitting 126. In the second innings, Kapil Dev and Maninder Singh starred with the ball, picking up four and three wickets respectively.
The Seam- Spin duo heroics enabled India to bowl out England for just 180, setting a target of 134 runs to win.
On the final day, skipper leading from the front with unbeaten 23 not out led India to a famous win by 5 wickets.
Till date, India has managed to win just two Tests at Lord's . The second win came during the 2014 tour of England as the MS Dhoni-led side defeated the hosts by 95 runs.
