In a U-turn, Samajwadi Party president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said he would get vaccinated with ‘Government of India’s’ vaccine.

In January, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was about to start world’s largest vaccination drive against Covid-19, Akhilesh Yadav had said he didn’t trust ‘BJP’s vaccine’ so he would not get vaccinated.

His father, Samajwadi Party founder and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, who is 81 years old, got vaccinated in Lucknow.

On June 2, Akhilesh Yadav had raised doubts over the efficiency of the vaccines.

Currently, Serum Institute manufactured Covishield and Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin are being administered in the country.

As on June 8, the country has administered about 24 crore doses of the vaccine.

The Yogi Adityanath government of Uttar Pradesh has set a target of administering one crore doses in the month of June under its ‘Mission June’. The chief minister had also announced the state would administer three doses in the month of July.
