Ropar: A group of unruly crowd claiming to be farmers disrupted the blood donation camp the RSS volunteers had organised near Nurpur Bedi in Ropar district in Punjab.

The camp had been organised to commemorate the 400th birth anniversary of the Sikh guru, Guru Teg Bahadur, at the Balasar ashram.

According to Kulbhushan Joshi, one of the organisers, the camp was meant to collect 150 units of blood and was planned at the suggestion of the district administration. “But as soon as the infrastructure for the camp was put in place about 50-60 hooligans armed with lathis and swords assembled at the spot and blocked the road and did not let any donor reach the spot”, he said adding that they were suspected to be backed by political parties as they raised political slogans.

He regretted that the police deployed at the spot did not take any action against them and instead discouraged us from going ahead with the camp.

He said two similar camps to be organised at Anandpur Sahib and Ropar have been put on hold.
