Indian pharma major Cipla Thursday announced the launch of RT-PCR test kit “ViraGen’ in partnership with another leading Indian manufacturer of diagnostic kits Kerala-based Ubio Biotechnology Systems.
The supply of the kit will start from May 25.
RT-PCR test is used to confirm the Covid-19 virus in the swab collected from the person.
It is one of the most reliable tests available to check the presence of the virus.
Currently, about 20 lakh tests are done per day. The union government is planning to take this capacity to about 40 lakhs per day by the end of June.
PTI quoted Cipla MD and Global CEO Umang Vohra as saying, “Cipla has been working relentlessly to ensure accessibility to treatments in this fight against Covid-19. Guided by our core purpose of ‘Caring for Life’, this partnership will enable us to reach out to more people across the country at a crucial time like now”.
