Amid the reports of violence from all over West Bengal by the TMC cadre, Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar called the West Bengal DGP and the Kolkata Police Commissioner for a meeting in the Ran Bhawan Monday.
The Governor said, “Such political violence and lawlessness cannot be overlooked as this taints the essence of democratic fabric. Call upon people to maintain calm and peace and promote harmony.”
He also expressed his sadness over nine people having “lost their lives and many injured in post poll political violence.”
The ABVP office in Kolkata was vandalised by the TMC workers Monday afternoon. The National Joint Organising Secretary, ABVP Shri Niwas and other office bearers were attacked.
Suvendu Adhikari, newly elected BJP MLA from Nandigram, was heckled and his car pelted with stones Sunday evening.
Adhikari has defeated Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
The BJP office in Arambagh was set on fire last night. The BJP’s booth agents house in Bishnupur was also set on fire by the TMC workers.
In her victory speech Sunday evening, not even once Mamata Banerjee asked her cadre to refrain from violence.
More than 150 BJP workers have lost their lives in the past four years.
