Election Commission has banned all victory processions on or after the day of the counting of votes for assembly polls in five states. The counting for assembly elections in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry is on the 2nd of May. Not more than two persons will be allowed to accompany the winning candidates to receive the certificate of election from the concerned Returning Officer. The ban by EC comes in view of the surge in COVID cases throughout the country.

BJP President J P Nadda has welcomed the decision of the Election Commission banning celebrations and processions of electoral victories. Mr Nadda has directed state units of the party to strictly adhere to this decision. He said all BJP workers are using their energies to help the ones in need in this hour of crisis
