Swami Jitendranand Saraswati Tuesday moved the Supreme Court for a law to control the population.

The matter is likely to be taken up on April 20.

Shri Saraswati petitioned the court that the rapidly growing population of the country is posing many challenges and the union government is not able to check it.

So, he has requested the court to order the government to bring a law to check the rapidly growing population.
There is already a similar petition in the court filed by the BJP leader and advocate Ashwini Upadhyay. The court had issued notices to the union government on January 10.

The government is yet to file the reply.

Swami Jitendranand Saraswati is an office bearer of Akhil Bharatiya Sant Samiti and also Ganga Mahasabha.
Shri Saraswati submitted that the growing population is straining our resources and the government is not able to provide for proper food and medicine for the population.

He also submitted that it posed a very serious threat to the unity and integrity of the country.

Describing how the resources are strained, Shri Saraswati submitted that the country has only 2% of the global land and 4% of the global water resources but about 20% of the global population.

He also requested the court that since the governments have not been able to bring a law to check population because of political reasons, including vote bank politics, the court should order the government.
