The Chinese authorities were bullying Paraguay to dump diplomatic ties with Taiwan in exchange for Covid-19 vaccine doses. Bharat stepped in and provided the vaccine to the South American Nation.
Taiwan’s Foreign Minister Joseph Wu said this Wednesday.
The Chinese authorities claim Taiwan as theirs and bully countries that want to establish diplomatic relations with Taiwan.
It has diplomatic relations with only 15 countries.
On March 26, Bharat provided 1,00,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine Covaxin. It’ll supply additional 1,00,000 doses soon.
Covaxin is a fully indigenous vaccine, developed and manufactured by Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech.
Public resentment was rising against the Paraguay government over the rising cases of Covid-19 in the country.
Wu alleged the Chinese authorities were arm twisting Paraguay into derecognising Taiwan in exchange for vaccine doses.
