In a serious revelation, the Thiruvananthapuram District President of Islamist outfit SDPI, Ziad Kandala said that the party voted for the Communist-led LDF alliance in the recently concluded assembly election. He claimed that his party has ten thousand votes in the Nemom constituency and said that both the candidates and the LDF alliance had sought SDPI’s support. Ziad also said that SDPI’s top priority was to defeat BJP.
Nemom was the first assembly constituency won by the BJP in Kerala, where its candidate O Rajagopal had won in 2016. Kummanam Rajasekharan is the BJP candidate from the constituency in the present election. In the Kazhakkuttam constituency, the BJP is in a direct fight with CPM’s Kadakampally Surendran who is the Dewaswam minister in the current LDF government headed by Pinarayi Vijayan.
The Communist Party seeking help from a radical Islamist outfit like SDPI shows the kind of growing Islamist influence in Kerala.
