The BBC Wednesday informed that one of its China correspondents had been relocated to Taiwan. It also said the move was necessitated following “pressure and threats from the Chinese authorities”.

The journalist, John Sudworth, was based in Beijing for nine years.

It said Sudworth and his family were illegally followed by the police personnel.

His wife, Yvonne Murray, is a China correspondent for Irish broadcaster RTE.

China had banned BBC World News in the country last month after the news organisation published a report criticising the Chinese authorities treatment of Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang.

The report had alleged that Muslim women in Xinjiang camps were subjected to rape and torture.

In the past as well, Chinese authorities have objected to the reporting of Sudworth. Although, the Xinjiang report did not have his byline.
