On Wednesday, March 24, Faridabad fast track court convicted the prime accused Tauseef and his friend Rihan in the Nikita Tomar murder case (October 2020). Meanwhile, the third accused, Azruddin, who had supplied the weapon, has been acquitted. The quantum of the sentence will be pronounced on Friday, March 26.

The verdict was delivered by the District and Sessions Court in Faridabad, four months after the trial began on December 1, 2020.

The 21-year-old Hindu girl Nikita Tomar was shot in broad daylight in Faridabad, Haryana, in October 2020 by Muslim-men Tauseef. Tauseef and Rihan had tried to abduct Nikita Tomar. When she resisted, Tauseef pulled out a revolver and fired at her.

After the murder, a special investigation team (SIT) was formed on October 27, led by Anil Kumar Yadav, assistant commissioner of police (crime), to probe the case. On November 6, the special investigation team filed a 700-page charge sheet, listing 60 witnesses in the murder case. Fingerprints were also matched from three samples from the car, the pistol, and the woman’s arm.

Prime accused Tausif was caught on CCTV shooting Nikita Tomar after the failed abduction bid. Nikita was seen struggling to get free, and she had managed to flee for a brief moment before the accused grabbed her again. While Nikita struggled to free herself from the man, he then shot her in point-blank range. The other accused, Rihan, was also pulling Tauseef back into the car.

After his arrest, he revealed to the police that he shot Nikita as she was about to get married to someone else.

Nikita Tomar had also filed a molestation complaint against Tauseef a few months before her murder. However, her family later dropped the case. Her family had alleged that Tauseef forced Nikita to marry her and pressured her to embrace Islam.

It is to be noted that Tauseef is the grandson of Kabir Ahmed, Former Congress MLA from Nuh, Mewat. Moreover, Tauseef’s late uncle Khurshid Ahmad was also a Congress MP of Haryana and was an ex-Cabinet minister of Haryana.
