In a shocking revelation, The United States-based newspaper The Washington Post admitted publishing fake news about then-President Donald Trump.
The newspaper added a lengthy correction to the news article published in January.
In an exclusive report, The Post claimed President Trump had called Georgia’s top election investigator in December and asked her “to find the fraud”. The paper also wrote Trump said they would be “a national hero” if they found the fraud.
Now, in the correction, The Post has written “The recording revealed that The Post misquoted Trump’s comments on the call, based on information provided by a source.”
The correction has come after The Wall Street Journal published a story on the same conversation between Trump and the top investigator. This is the first time any news organisation has obtained the recording of the conversation.
The Post is still silent about why it took so long to issue a correction.
The newspaper has added in the correction “The headline and text of this story have been corrected to remove quotes misattributed to Trump.”
The report, published in January, was widely quoted by news organisations across the globe.
