The Election Commission of India Thursday responded sternly to the Trinamool Congress’ allegations in the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accident case.
The Commission said the allegations levelled against it had no evidence. It said, “It’s unfortunate that it is full of insinuations and averments.”
A delegation of the Trinamool Congress has met the Commission officials in West Bengal.
The Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress President Mamata Banerjee had got injured Wednesday while campaigning in Nandigram.
Ms. Banerjee had alleged she was attacked by five people.
Immediately her lies were busted as many eyewitnesses contradicted her version of the accident. The preliminary police investigation also concluded it was an accident. In a surprising u-turn, Ms. Banerjee in a video message posted from hospital bed alleged it was an accident.
The Election Commission sought the report from the state administration within 48 hours.
Earlier, the Commission had removed the state DGP Virendra and appointed a new DGP.
The Commission said, “Till such time the reports are available to the Commission, it will not be possible to draw any empirical conclusion let alone start linking it to the removal of earlier DGP Virendra.” It added the DGP was not removed without application of mind.
The state administration is expected to submit its final report about the accident today.
