Senior Muslim League leader and party’s national general secretary P K Kunhalikutty said that BJP has no idea of secularism and gave an advise that if the party has to become a relevant force in Kerala, BJP should practise secularism. He also asked BJP to be ‘more inclusive’ like the Congress party. Kunhalikutty claimed that the Muslim League is a secular party.
Kunhalikutty had recently resigned from the Lok Sabha to contest the assembly election in Kerala. Before going to the Lok Sabha he had proclaimed that he would oppose Modi with tooth and nail, but now he simply quit the parliament in expectation of a ministerial berth if the Congress-led alliance wins Kerala election.
A leader of the Muslim League claiming that BJP is communal is itself paradoxical. Muslim League is a party where all MLAs and MPs are Muslims only. Its close connection with fundamentalist Islamic groups in Kerala is also known. Muslim League’s involvement in the Marad massacre of Hindus didn’t come under investigation due to its proximity to the power centres.
With the state assembly election scheduled to happen on April 6th, the Muslim League is eying for the position of Deputy CM since it is the second-largest party in the UDF alliance.
