Guwahati: Bangladeshi high commissioner to India, Muhammad Imran met Assam Governor professor Jagdish Mukhi at Raj Bhavan in the city on 23 February and talked on a gamut of issues of bilateral interests.
Highlighting the potential areas where Assam and Bangladesh can collaborate for their mutual interests, Governor Mukhi emphasized that the volume of bilateral trades through land route should attain the maximum potential.
Considering the friendly relations between India and Bangladesh, Mukhi commented that the commodities those are presently allowed for exports are restricted to an extent. He suggested that there should also be a negative list highlighting the items not to be exported so that the rest all other items can be exported.
Pointing out that a bilateral trade agreement with Bangladesh could be made in line with the Indo-Sri Lankan free trade agreement, he stated that it would shore up the bilateral trade through the land route in north-eastern States.
The high commissioner assured that he would take up relevant matters with their government in Dhaka. Assistant high commissioner Dr Shah Mohammad Tanvir Monsur, who is based in Guwahati, also accompanied his commissioner during the visit.
