Guwahati: Participating in Sahodar 2020-21, a cultural exchange program for different ethnic communities of Assam at Jengraimukh area in Majuli river island recently, popular Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi reiterated his dream to make a mega movie on the life of Ahom era army general Lachit Borphukan. He responded humbly to State chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s call to speedily realize he’s planning to make the movie.

Mentionable is that Borphukan (24 November 1622 to 25 April 1672) was a commanding general of Ahom kingdom, who defeated the invading Mughal forces in the historic 1671 Battle of Saraighat over Brahmaputra river. He was ill but did not lose heart and inspired the local soldiers to chase away the Muslim invaders. Finally, he succeeded and Assam thus created the history of not going under the Mughal Empire.

Amidst public applauses, Oberoi appreciated Sonowal for his initiative to make Majuli a carbon neutral district in the middle of the mighty river Brahmaputra. Saying that he was mesmerized by the natural beauty, Oberoi commented that all the steps taken for maintaining the natural ambience of Majuli can be an example for the whole country.

Earlier Sonowal stated that the Sahodar initiative has immensely contributed in strengthening unity and harmony among various ethnic communities and as a result, no incident of ethnic violence have taken place since 2016 in Assam. Organized by the advisory board for sports & youth welfare, the festival was participated by youths from 39 ethnic communities.

Commenting on their participation, Sonowal asserted that the harmonious co-existence of various communities would help Assam to climb the growth ladder to be one of the most developed States of India very soon. Speaking about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s principle of sabka saath, sabka vikas, aabka viswas, Sonowal declared that it has
enhanced the self-confidence of people living in Assam as well the entire north-eastern region. He urged the youth to commit themselves to realizing the call given by PM Modi for building an Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

In presence of Union minister Rameswar Teli, Parliamentarian Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, State sports & youth welfare official Lakhya Konwar, autonomous council representatives for Deuri, Thengal Kachari and Mising, popular singer Debojit Saha, folk artist Dulal Manki, a number of Satradhikars, Sonowal also called upon the youths to strengthen peace and harmony by following the ideals of Mahapurus Shrimanta Shankardev.
