Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, who is also holding the portfolio of State Home Department, today informed the State Assembly during the discussion on Calling Attention Motion that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe into the grenade attack at the media house.

On the ninth day of the ongoing Budget Session of State Legislative Assembly today, the Chief Minister said that the four-member SIT headed by Superintendent of Police, Imphal West district has started a probe into the grenade attack at the office of Poknapham and its sister publication- People’s Chronicle on 13th of February.

Mr Singh strongly condemned the cowardly attacks upon the media, the fourth pillar of democracy and gave the assurance that the culprits involved in the incident will be nabbed at the earliest. He said that steps have been taken up by the Government to deploy security personnel at the office of media houses.

The Chief Minister also fervently appealed to all the media houses and the media professionals in the state to resume services in the public interest as the media plays an important role in the dissemination of important news and information to the general public at all times.

Following the incident, the media houses in Imphal stopped dissemination of news through newspapers and channels from next day onwards.
