
Guwahati: Thousands of performing artistes, technicians and conventional artistes were offered financial aids by the BJP led government of Assam in a function held on Friday at Shrimanta Shankaradev Kalakshetra in the city. State chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal presented Shilpi Sambardhona and financial supports to the artistes and technicians of Assam’s best-known mobile theatre.
He also handed over financial aids to the artistes who were hit by the Covid-19 pandemic inducing financial crunch. At the same time, Sonowal presented appointment letters to the lecturers of government fine arts college at Basistha in the city and Shobha Brahma memorial music and fine arts college in Kokrajhar of western Assam. He also released a coffee table book titled Kristir Batere in the same function.
Mentionable is that under Shilpi Sambardhona initiative, 1186 artistes were delivered rupees 50 thousand financial aids and under the mobile theatre artistes & technicians’ scheme 974 beneficiaries were given rupees 50 thousand each. Additionally, 16,547 conventional artistes, who were hit by the pandemic were offered rupees six thousand financial support each.
In his speech, Sonowal cited examples of Assamese cultural icons like Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, Bishnu Prasad Rabha, Phani Sarma, Bhupen Hazarika etc who strengthened the bond of social harmony through their unique creations. He called on the artiste fraternity to inspire the young generation to contribute towards nation-building process and instil humanistic values among everyone in the society.
In presence of State cultural minister Naba Kr Doley, agriculture minister Atul Bora, BTR chief Pramod Bodo, legislator Atul Borah, State film finance and development corporation chairman Suman Haripriya, Jyoti Chitraban film society chairman Pabitra Margherita with other dignitaries, Sonowal commented that the government would continue supporting the artistes in future too.
