Assam government launches multiple schemes for women empowerment

Guwahati: For the transformation of a society, the women must be empowered first, said Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal while addressing a Mahila Samaroh at Sarusajai Stadium in the city on 11 February 2021. The BJP led government in Dispur is committed to transforming the socio-economic condition of Assam with proper education
to the women, added Sonowal. In order to establish a superior society, relentless efforts must be made in strengthening the women of all walks of life.
Citing the richness of six thousand years old Indian civilization, Sonowal referred to Reeg Veda where it is analyzed that a society can be made strong only if right kind of respect and dignity is shown to women. Hailing women self-help groups of the State, Sonowal observed that the women members of those groups with the help of value addition to their products have captured the markets. If a woman after selling her produces can earn a livelihood, it ultimately helps her along with the family to become self-reliant. Nearly 58 thousand SHGs through their business activities have proved their abilities, he opined.
At the same function, Sonowal launched a number of schemes including Vistarita Kanaklata Mahila Sabalikaran Yojana, Aideu Sandikoi Mahila Sanman Achani, Jivika Sakhis, Mukhya Mantri Divyangjan Atma-Nirvar Achani etc. He claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the government made it clear about women empowerment with Beti Padao, Beti Bachao movement. Sonowal also commented that PM Modi’s frequent uses of Asomiya Gamocha have accorded pride and prestige to the weavers.
Referring to the development of Multi-modal logistic hub atJogighopa, cargo services, surface communication etc, Sonowal urged the womenfolk to work hard to expedite the rate of development in the state. In presence of State agriculture minister Atul Bora, panchayat & rural development minister Naba Kr Doley, revenue minister Jogen Mohan, CM’s legal adviser Santanu Bharali, legislators Atul Borah, RN Kalita, Ashok Sharma, BK Saikia, Nabanita Handique, Suman Haripriya and a host of dignitaries, Sonowal also released a handbook for divyangjans and presented cheques and two-wheelers to the beneficiaries under various schemes.
