In a shocking incident which happened in Kerala, the wife of Palakkad district session court Judge B Kalam Pasha has approached Kerala High Court to move forward a complaint against him regarding issuing her ‘Triple Talaq’, which was made illegal under the Indian law. She also alleged that Kalam Pasha’s brother and retired Justice B Kamal Pasha had threatened her.

The women said that Kalam Pasha issued Triple Talaq against her on March 1, 2018. He had sent a letter to her regarding this on the same day. But later, he sent her another letter saying that there was a typing error and the original date was March 1, 2017. The woman alleged that this was an effort to avoid legal procedures by mentioning a date before the law banning triple talaq came into force.

According to the Supreme court, the permission of the chief justice concerned is necessary to register a case against a judge. Before two years, a primary investigation was done on this by the vigilance following the matter coming to the notice of High Court. Triple talaq was banned by the SC in August 2017 following which the parliament had passed a bill criminalising this barbaric practice.

She also alleged that Kalam Pasha’s brother and retired Justice Kemal Pasha had threatened her and told her that she would have to face serious consequences if she refuses to divorce Kalam Pasha.

Such allegations against judges, who are supposed to be the custodians of the rule of the land, indulging in such barbaric practices should be seen and examined carefully.
