Guwahati: Assam government has created a precedent in the country with ceremonially presenting appointment letters to 29,701 teachers. In a single day, 16484 teachers were given an appointment for provincializing their schools and also 13,217 educators (qualified by teacher’s eligibility test) also got an appointment by virtue of their merits in the biggest ever appointment letter distribution event.
State chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal in the presence of education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma handed over the official letters at a function held on 5 February 2021 in the city expecting that the shortage of teachers in various educational institutions would be addressed to a greater extent.
Addressing the function, Sonowal said that the appointment to nearly 30,000 teachers is a testimony of the BJP led government in Dispur to try its best to improve the State’s education sector. True to the announcements made in the Independence Day speech regarding appointment of 50 thousand teachers, this function has proved Dispur’s sincerity to fulfil the promise.
Hailing the transparent process adopted in recruiting the teachers, Sonowal also asked the newly appointed teachers to shoulder the responsibility to develop the youth as quality human resources so that they could shine in the global job market. He termed the teachers as the architect of future for the younger generation and urged them to suitably guide the students in developing their personalities.
Mentioning about the increase of higher educational institutions including medical and engineering colleges, various universities, AIIMS Guwahati, Indian agricultural research institution, national design institute, etc in Assam, Sonowal expressed hope that it would tremendously help the aspiring students. He cited the Act East Policy as an opportunity for the youth to make a successful inroad into the southeast Asian market.
Sarma in his speech urged people not to venture into opening any new school saying that it was the duty of the government to take forward the youth in the field of knowledge and wisdom. He also announced that in the next few days, another five thousand teachers would be appointed by the government. Sarma informed that since 2016, Dispur has appointed 71,765 teachers in schools.
In presence of State’s junior education minister Bhabesh Kalita, education commissioner & secretary Preetom Saikia, principal education secretary B Kalyan Chakravarty, Rashtriya Ucchator Siksha Abhiyan’s mission director Dipak Majumdar, SEBA chairman Ramesh Ch Jain, etc Sarma termed the initiative as a golden opening for the aspirants.
