Guwahati: The incident relating to the killing of a cow and subsequent exposures in the alternate media space has put a guy from Manipur in troubles. The individual from Ukhrul district of the northeastern State now faces complaints as the video of him shooting and killing the cow went viral on social media.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) lodged a strong protest against the individual (identified as Wungshungmi Hungyo sending a letter to the district police chief requesting him to register a first information report (FIR) on account of the crime.

The non-government organization later worked closely with the locality’s top police officer Saujanya Singh to register the FIR against on 30 January comprising various sections under Indian Penal Code, Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and Arms Act, 1959. “PETA India commends the efforts of the Manipur police and thanks to them for their clear message that cruelty to animals will not be tolerated,” said Meet Ashar, the group’s emergency response team leader, adding that the trauma that cow must have gone through is hard to imagine.

Since people who are cruel to animals often move on to harming humans, it’s imperative for the public to report cases of cruelty to animals such as this one for society’s safety, added the office bearer of PETA India, which preaches that animals are not ours (human beings) to abuse in any way.
