Orthodox Church criticised Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan for his dictatorial functioning and said that the church won’t allow the communist party’s fascist regime in Kerala. Church’s media head Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios Methrapolitha said that the Chief Minister’s political messages should be directed to CPIM party offices and not at the Orthodox Church. He also said that they respect Pinarayi Vijayan as the CM of Kerala and requested him to reciprocate the respect shown towards him. The Church also accused the CPIM government of showing fascist tendencies whenever they get a space.
Kerala CM had reacted harshly to a question asked by a priest of Orthodox Church at a public forum. The church asked the CM to show democratic decency and also said that the CM cannot rule the state according to his free will. Dr Geevarghese demanded the Chief Minister to show decency while dealing with the Church. He made it clear that the Orthodox church members were not the slaves of Kerala CM.
The Church accused Pinarayi Vijayan of blatantly telling lies and questioning the integrity of the priests. They also said that the Supreme court verdict was on their side and it was the responsibility of the state government to confiscate and handover the disputed Churches to them. Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had shown interest in mediating between Orthodox and Jacobite churches, to resolve their problems regarding the disputed Churches. Taking a potshot at Kerala CM, Dr Geevarghese said that PM’s interference is aimed at making ‘some people’ realise that Thiruvananthapuram is not the national capital of India.
