Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) has emerged as a beacon of hope for the debt-ridden Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) with the union winning 18% votes in the referendum held recently. BMS affiliated KST Employees Sangh has hence become a recognised workers union within KSRTC. CPIM affiliate CITU lost 14% vote share while BMS saw a rise of 10% vote share from the previous election. This is the first time in the history of KSRTC that BMS has become a recognised workers union.
BJP Kerala state president K. Surendran hailed BMS’s victory and point out the depreciating popularity of both CITU and Transport Democratic Federation (TDF) -backed by Congress party. TDF, while doing their election analysis found that the traditional CITU votes had diverted to BMS. BMS state committee has extended hearty congratulations to the KSRTC fraternity and lauded the efforts of the workers of BMS over the past 4 decades.
The referendum at KSRTC was held on December 30 to formally recognise the employees union in the corporation.
