Bharatiya Janata Party State General Secretary George Kurian has called for anti-conversion laws in Kerala, on the similar line of Uttar Pradesh. He said that the party is not against love marriages, but is against converting just for marriage purposes.
“21 people from Kerala had travelled to Iraq and Syria to join ISIS and about half of them were Christian converts”, he said. He also added that these figures were put out in public by the Christian church.
Kerala was the first state in India to report systematic Love Jihad cases. Hindu and Christian women are lured into marriage, but converting to Islam is made mandatory. There are reports of organisations like the Popular Front of India aiding such activities. Since there is a rise in these Romeo-jihad cases, many states are bringing legislations to have a check on these illegal activities.
