Guwahati: Senior BJP leader and Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal paid rich last floral tributes to Congress veteran and former three-time State chief minister Tarun Gogoi today (November 26, 2020) at Nabagraha crematorium in the city before the final rituals
 
conducted by the popular politician’s only son Gaurav Gogoi, who is a Congress Parliamentarian.
 
The tallest INC leader in the region, Gogoi who was cremated with full state honours, where besides Sonowal a number of State ministers including Himanta Biswa Sarma, Congress Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh, State Congress chief Ripun Bora, State BJP president Ranjit Dass, legislators, party workers, representative of social organisations etc were present on the occasion.
 
Assam police personnel gave gun salutes to the mortal remains of Gogoi, who died of post-corona complications on November 23 at Guwahati medical college hospital. His last journey started from Shrimanta Shankardev Kalakshetra as the mortal remains were taken out of the cultural complex with a procession leading to his government residence at Dispur, where his wife Dolly Gogoi, daughter Chandrima Gogoi with other family members offered their last esteems.
 
Tarun Gogoi’s mortal remains carrying coffin was then taken to a church at Rukminigaon, a Namghar (Vaishnavite monastery) at Zooroad Tiniali, a mosque (Bura Jame Masjid) at Ambari, a temple (Ugratara Devalaya) at Latasil area before leading to the crematorium. His footprints and handprints were also collected by a group of artists as the family
rituals for preservation.
