Eight opposition MPs including Derek O’Brien, Sanjay Singh, Rajiv Satav, K K Ragesh, Syed Nazij Hussain, Dola Sen, Nipun Bora and Nazim were suspended from Rajya Sabha by the Chairman Venkaiah Naidu for their unruly behaviour during the passage of farm bills in the Rajya Sabha on Sunday, September 20. These MPs have been suspended for the remaining part of the Monsoon Session of Rajya Sabha.
Hussain, Bora and Satav are from Congress, Derek O’Brien and Dola Sen are TMC MPs, Sanjay Singh is MP from AAP, while Ragesh and Kareem are from CPI(M).
Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu said that these incidents were unfortunate. “It pained me a lot. It defies logic. It was really a bad day for Rajya Sabha.”
He also rejected the no-confidence motion moved by 46 MPs, including Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad, saying it was not in a proper format. M Venkaiah Naidu said he was of the view that Harivansh Narayan Singh was physically threatened and that he would have been harmed.
After that Opposition raised slogans against the suspension of MPs following which M Venkaiah Naidu adjourned the House for 30 minutes.
