Gold smugglers attempt to murder DRI officials in Kerala: FM Nirmala Sitharaman lauds dedication of officials

A gold smuggling racket attempted to murder two DRI (Directorate of Revenue Intelligence) officials, by ramming a car on their two-wheeler, while they were trying to stop the car to seize gold. Two DRI officials sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kozhikode.
Four kg of gold were recovered from the car and three smugglers were charged for “attempt of murder”, said officials.
According to police, the DRI team was acting on specific input of gold smuggling through Karipur airport. It ks suspected that the cleaning staff of the airport handed over the smuggled gold to carriers.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman appreciated the dedication of the team and said that she has directed to ensure complete medical care for DRI officials.
“Appreciate the dedication with which the team is working in these challenging times. Have directed Secretary, DoR to ensure complete medical care is extended. Kudos for the commitment shown,” Smt Nirmala Sitharaman tweeted.
